Description: Rugs from the Malayer district in northwest Persia utilize design characteristics from neighboring villages and towns. Some examples have stylized floral patterns and geometric medallions similar to those found in Hamadan rugs to the north, and others have refined curvilinear designs found in rugs from the Sarouk and Fereghan districts to the east. The foundation threads of these rugs is cotton, and most examples have a single weft thread between each row of knots, creating a ribbed appearance on the back of the rug.
